Using a scraping motion is the preferred method for removing a bee sting because it is effective at minimizing the amount of venom that enters the skin. When a bee stings, it leaves behind a venom sac attached to its stinger, which can continue to pump venom into the victim if not removed quickly. Scraping the stinger out with a flat object, like a credit card or a specialized tool, allows for a more controlled removal and reduces the risk of squeezing the venom sac, which would release more venom.

Other methods, such as pulling the stinger out with fingers, may inadvertently squeeze the sac, resulting in additional venom release. Soaking in vinegar does not typically assist in sting removal, though it may provide some relief later. Allowing the sting to fall out on its own is not effective, as the venom would continue to enter the body during that time, leading to more discomfort and a higher chance of an allergic reaction.
